NTT Communications Corp in Japan is currently testing a system which will allow mobile phone users to download perfumes and fragrances with their mobile phones. There is a trial ongoing with 20 people and if it is considered to be successful it looks likely that this will be rolled out commercially to mobile phone users worldwide.

It sounds like something straight out of a science fiction movie but this is very much science fact. The way it works is that each user is given an aroma pot containing 16 different essences which can be blended in different combinations to create different fragrances. The idea is that a user will choose a download on their mobile phone and this will trigger their aroma pot to create the desired scent. This could be very useful to set the mood for a romantic evening in with a lover or to help someone to get a peaceful night’s sleep.

If successful this will revolutionise the mobile phone industry and there is already talk of being able to send scents to other people via text message.

There is an upsurge in the use of dry shampoo at present. For those not familiar with the concept of dry shampoo, it comes in a spray and is sprayed onto the roots of hair and then combed through, leaving the hair clean afterwards.

Growing numbers of women are eschewing the familiar ritual of daily hair washing for the much more convenient dry shampoo which only needs to be applied once a week. It is easy to see the attraction of this method and though it looks like a throwback to many years ago, and an anachronism in our modern high-tech world, it is gaining converts in ever increasing numbers. According to Boots, in an article in the Times newspaper, sales of dry shampoo are up 45% from the previous year.

Dry shampoos have come on enormously in recent years and help to volumise and de-grease hair. Marry this to the convenience of being able to stay in bed a little longer in the morning and it is only logical that it is a winning formula.

Celebrity fans of dry shampoo are rumoured to include Miuccia Prada, the renowned fashion designer and head of the famous fashion house which bears her family name.

Britney Spears: Believe

Britney Spears launched a new perfume called Believe in September 2007, just in time for the Christmas rush and it has been selling well despite the fact that she has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.

This is the latest of five perfumes Britney Spears has put her name to for Elizabeth Arden, a long established perfume brand. The others in the Britney Spears range are Curious, Fantasy, In Control Curious and Midnight Fantasy. There is currently up to 60% off Britney Spears fragrances at Cheap Smells.

Perfume: Robber Repellent

A woman in Corpus Christi, Texas saw off an armed robber using just a perfume spray. The woman had been held captive by a knife wielding car jacker for two hours after she had stopped to help when she saw him lying in the middle of the road. Thankfully she managed to spray him in the eyes and he fled the scene. The lady escaped with only minor injuries though she was thought to be quite shaken by her ordeal. Police are still actively hunting for the suspect.

Matthew Fox - L’Oreal Menexpert

Matthew Fox, “Dr Jack Shephard” in hit TV series Lost, has been signed up to advertise for L’Oreal’s male grooming and skincare products. This does seem quite a strange choice, given that he spends most of the show with heavy facial hair growth.
